December 16, 2024Get Ready for Magical Journeys: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Goes Global!
Big news for Potterheads! The enchanting world of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” is set to spread its wings internationally. Producers have unveiled plans for two exciting new productions: a Portuguese-language version in Brazil slated for 2025, followed by a Dutch-language rendition in the Netherlands in 2026. VME will take the reins in Brazil, while Stage Entertainment will help conjure the magic in the Netherlands.
These adaptations will feature a fresh, one-part interpretation of the acclaimed 2018 Tony Award-winning play. This new format recently debuted on Broadway, where it continues to captivate audiences with a streamlined experience, moving away from its original two-part structure.
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callendar expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to be launching two new productions of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’ The story’s themes—friendship, courage, love, and all the ups and downs of growing up—truly resonate worldwide. We can’t wait to share this magical tale with new audiences in Brazil and the Netherlands.”
Directed by the Tony Award-winning John Tiffany, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” follows beloved characters as they navigate the trials of parenthood. This spectacular show garnered ten Tony nominations in 2018, claiming six awards including Best Play. While a San Francisco production ran from 2019 to 2022, the national tour kicked off in September, and the original two-part version continues to enchant fans in London. Meanwhile, productions in Tokyo and Hamburg have embraced the one-part version since 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Stay tuned for casting announcements and creative team details that will bring these productions to life!
