November 20, 2024Catch the Glamour: Ryan McCartan Joins Broadway’s “The Great Gatsby”
The buzz is back in Broadway as Ryan McCartan steps into the spotlight The Great Gatsby musical as Jay Gatsby starting January 21, 2025! He’ll be succeeding the talented Jeremy Jordan, who wraps up his run on January 19. Talk about a transition that’s sure to create some excitement!
But that’s not all! This production is gearing up for a grand celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel. The “Great Gatsby” Centennial Celebration kicks off with a gala performance on January 16, 2025, followed by a soirée. All proceeds from this glittering evening will support the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (NYPLPA). What a fabulous way to celebrate literary brilliance and Broadway magic!
Roberta Pereira, the executive director of the NYPLPA, shared her excitement: “We’re thrilled to be celebrated by the ‘Great Gatsby’ Broadway production. This musical adaptation is the perfect blend of literary history and Broadway brilliance, and we can’t wait to kick off our 60th anniversary with them!”
McCartan, a talented performer who snagged a Jimmy Award in 2011, made waves on Broadway as Fiyero in “Wicked” and has dazzled audiences as Hans in “Frozen.” He’s also shined in Off-Broadway productions like “Heathers” and “Scotland, PA,” and captivated TV viewers in “Liv & Maddie” and “The Winchesters.”
Joining McCartan in the current cast are Eva Noblezada as Daisy Buchanan, Eric Anderson as Meyer Wolfsheim, Sara Chase as Myrtle Wilson, and a stellar ensemble that keeps the story of love and longing alive. With music by Jason Howland, lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and a book by Kait Kerrigan, the show promises to be a feast for the senses.
Directed by Marc Bruni, with choreography by Dominique Kelley, “The Great Gatsby” had its previews begin on March 29 and officially opened on April 25. Notably, Linda Cho received the 2024 Tony Award for her stunning costume design, adding an extra layer of allure to this enchanting production.
