Stereophonic was enjoyable. The theatre was a nice small size but also under built for bathrooms and the bar (all down very narrow set of stairs every person in the theatre goes for intermission). Mens room was tiny thus crazy lines - certain the women’s situation was even worse. Nice staff. We had last row seats in orchestra. Dialog was hard to hear back there fyi. The site line was good but we are tall (last row is same height as ext to last row so be aware)

Oof. Great play, bad theater? I just saw Stereophonic at the Golden. And the play was great. But the theater was a struggle. It's beautiful but the theater...

The bathroom situation at this theater is unacceptable. I attended 'Stereophonic' last night but had to leave at intermission after nearly being trampled over by other attendees trying to reach the restroom. At the usher's direction - who said the only bathrooms were in the basement (I was seated near the front of the stage) - I tried to make it down the stairs closest to me. The stairs were mostly blocked because the line of women waiting to use the restroom was stretching up these stairs and beyond. By the time I finally made it to the basement, it took quite some time to even get close to the men's room. Attendees were shoving and pushing and yelling, and nobody was moving. By the time I got to the men's room, a security guard was directing all the men to leave the basement and head up a different set of stairs; apparently, the line for the men's room had stretched up that set of stairs and beyond, which would have put me back where I started. At this point, intermission was almost over, so I decided my best option was to leave the theater to find a restroom. 'Stereophonic' is a long show - it's almost 2 hours before the intermission. With such a long show, people are going to need to use the restroom. Lots of people. I left the theater and did not return for the second half of the show. The chaos wasn't worth it.It's shocking to me that staff at the Golden Theatre think their bathroom situation is acceptable. It's not - in fact, I'd be shocked if they're not violating safety and/or health codes. I've never seen such a mess at any other theater I've visited.I will never see a show at the John Golden Theatre again. Not only was the bathroom situation out of control, but theater staff was very rude about it all. I understand the nightly chaos must be frustrating to them, but it's not attendees' fault that they haven't figured out a better situation for the restroom. Thanks for ruining my night.

If you’re considering going to Stereophonic sit middle to back on the first floor or front 1/4 of the mezzanine. If you’re too close you’ll miss some action happening in the studio. The theater is small enough that the nuance of the characters will still read well without being too close. I was in Row C and center in orchestra and wish I was just a tad further back.Don’t waste your time trying to get concessions during intermission. Only go down if you need to use the restroom, it’s a nightmare getting down there. The venue does a poor job of routing people and most the staff was rude to people confused by the chaos instead of helping. Signs and an announcement at top of intermission would make it more clear which stairwell to take for ladies and gentlemen. House right is men, left for women. Exiting the theater after the show is a grind.*Stereophonic isn’t a musical, it’s a drama about the peaks and valleys of creating music and if you have history in that industry it will hit close to home 😅 - you maybe get one complete song through the play and plenty of snippets, it’s nuanced and well done if you know what you’re walking into.

Just saw Stereophonic, and man what a performance! Excellent show with great sound, in a smaller intimate theater. Front mezzanine seats were awesome (honestly all seats seemed good.. orchestra seats seemed a bit low imo). Very cool and unique concept for a show -- I love the stage design, the audio controls and setup, the wonderful original music, and the amazing performances from all actors. However I'm removing one star, not for the chaotic bathroom lines, but for the drink selections at the concession stand - specifically for beer. We have dozens of local breweries in NYC, and you're serving 12oz bottles of Coors light, Sam Adams, and Corona for $15. I believe in you Golden Theatre, you can do better!

I really liked this theatre. The only downfall is the intermission queues. Lines for the bar and the bathrooms intertwine and it is very confusing. The stage view is very nice. Fun fact, for Stereophonic, they use 31 white stage lights above the stage.

Orchestra seating is pretty good (except for far left and right for Stereophonic) but seats in rear mezz are just way too high up.

Love the small size and the seating. The seating does give short or tall people some advantage in viewing the stage. Seats are a little small, but they all are honestly. Saw Stereophonic (4/4/24) and it was pretty great
